Pineapple-Ginger Simple Syrup Recipe

What on earth is simple syrup? Essentially, simple syrup is a liquid sweetener primarily made from dissolved sugar (or another sweetener) in water. Simple syrups can be used to sweeten and balance either  full proof or non-alcoholic cocktails.

¾ cup water

½ cup white sugar

½ cup pineapple juice

¼ cup fresh ginger root, peeled and chopped


Peel and chop the ginger into small pieces. Next, combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat over medium, stirring frequently, until all of the sugar has dissolved.


Add ginger and pineapple juice and bring the syrup to a boil. Once bubbling, reduce to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes.


Remove the syrup from the heat and allow to cool for 30 minutes before straining. Strain out the ginger and store in a covered jar in the refrigerator. This recipe should make about 1 cup of syrup.
