A Chat with our Female Founder, GG Sakey

In honor of International Women’s Day, we sat down with founder, GG Sakey, to hear what inspires her, what podcast she can’t get enough of, and what advice she has for other female leaders.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for female entrepreneurs?

Put something out that you really believe in. Otherwise, you’ll grow to resent the hours. Also, hire badasses, people who can do their thing better than you can, and don’t let your ego get in the way about that. And bonus: badasses love working with badasses, so team camaraderie takes care of itself.

What/who inspires/motivates you?

My 10-year-old daughter, Joss. Helping her become a good person, someone who uses her head and acts with compassion towards herself and others – that’s my most important job. Every day at work I think about the example I’m setting for her.

What tools (apps, books, podcasts, etc.) would you recommend to anyone trying to start their own business?
How I Built This is the best founder podcast around. It’s a terrific listen whether you’re an entrepreneur or not.

What are the biggest challenges that you face as a female leader?
I think a trap that female leaders sometimes fall into is feeling like you need to be the face of all women or that you need to lead like a man. But that’s false. You need to find your own way of leading and be true to it.

Who’s a female role model of yours?
Michelle Obama. Everything she does, she does with integrity and a sense of humanity. And she shows that there are ways to do it all without driving yourself insane. Though, for the life of me, I don’t know how she got those arms.
